All That Boot Camp “Sir, Yes Sir!'

Boot camp is a term highly associated with the military. It is both the manner by which recruits are being trained as well as the name of the place where the training is taking place. Boot camp is where former civilian citizens transition to being soldiers and are deployed in the different areas of the armed forces – marines, air force or army. The term boot camp originated during the Spanish American war era, wherein those who referred to where sailors where trained referred to the place as boot camps, a camp where sailors – characterized heavily by the leggings or 'boots' they are wearing – can be found training.

Because of the socially-accepted representation the term 'boot camp' has earned in the modern lingo, boot camp has been used in many areas of the pop culture. In 2001, a reality television series was aired nationwide titled Boot Camp. Boot Camp was also used as name of an 80's band as well as a type of computer software and the fitness program introduced by James Brabon in Australia in 1991.

The term boot camp, however, is not just used exclusively for military training. Some correctional facilities for law breakers are described as boot camp. There are also camps owned by private business entities today which cater to a specific target market that uses military style training for activities which are not military in nature, in general, such as behaviour-check and physical fitness training.

Those who are considering joining a boot camp to get enlisted in the military should make initial preparations before the boot camp starts. These preparations include physical fitness and mental stability. Boot camp candidates are encouraged to engage themselves in the typical exercises conducted in regular boot camps as well as to imbibe a healthy lifestyle and maintain a healthy body so that the recruit will have very little difficulty in adjusting once inside the boot camp and training.
